The delivery date depends on your estimated transit time. Once your order is dispatched, you receive an estimated arrival date. Know that it is difficult to pinpoint an exact day and time for delivery. Factors such as weather, traffic and other car loads can affect it.
Weather conditions such as rain, snow, high winds, etc. may occur along your route. In these cases, delivery may be delayed due to weather conditions.
Can great weather and good traffic be a bad thing? Possibly. It may cause your vehicle to be delivered ahead of the estimated schedule.
This is the date your vehicle is ready to be picked up. However, this is not necessarily the exact pick up date. Depending on truck availability at that particular time, we may be able to assign a truck to load your vehicle on your First Available Shipping Date but it may also be a few days after. If we cannot pick it up that day, it should be within our usual pick up window of 1 to 5 business days starting from that date. For more details see pick up date and time.
You can choose to pay in full online as we accept all major credit cards and PayPal. You can also pay in cash at the time of delivery. If you choose to pay in cash, there is a small partial payment of $199 or less (depending on the distance of your shipment) when you place your order to secure your car’s spot on a truck.

Yes, you can. If you want to pay in full online you can do so at booking by choosing the ‘Regular Price.’ With this option, you can make a convenient, one-time payment with a credit or debit card, as well as through PayPal.
This means that the truck driver will pick the vehicle up and drop it off as close to your home as he can legally and safely get. Many cities have restrictions on large trucks that prohibit them from driving into some residential areas. Transport trucks are enormous and need a lot of room to maneuver and turn around, so if access to your home is restricted by narrow streets, low-hanging trees, speed bumps or tight turns the driver may ask that you meet the truck at a large parking lot nearby such as a grocery store. You will receive a call directly from the trucker if these alternative arrangements are necessary.
Yes, your vehicle is fully insured during transport- from the moment it gets loaded onto the truck, to the moment it is taken off. The carrier’s insurance covers at least $100,000. Any contents left in the vehicle are not insured.
Personal items inside the car are not covered by the carrier’s cargo insurance.
It is best to book at least two weeks before your ‘First Available Shipping Date.’ Due to changing market conditions, we can only accept orders for up to 30 days before your ‘First Available Shipping Date.’ Please read more about ‘First Available Shipping Date.’
At delivery, inspect the vehicle and if there are any damages, please:
- Note damages on the Bill of Lading/Vehicle Condition report
- Get a copy of the delivery Bill of Lading from the trucker

Your vehicle is insured under Inland Marine Cargo Insurance. This insurance policy protects goods while in transit on land. It is an outgrowth of the Ocean Marine insurance, and it compensates for losses and damages to the objects being moved.

Be advised that personal items can damage the interior of your car due to possible shifting caused by vibrations on the road. Any damages to the interior caused by personal items are not covered by the carrier’s cargo insurance policy.
The car value is determined based on the actual cash value of the vehicle at the time of transport.
The total cost depends on a few components:

- Condition: running or not running. Running means the engine starts and the car moves on its own power. Not running means the car does not start.

Yes, you can change your ‘First Available Shipping Date’ before a trucker is assigned/dispatched to your order.
A typical auto transport trailer has 2 levels (decks). Top-loading will protect your vehicle from possible fluid leaks from other vehicles above it, in addition, there’s less chance for small rock chips to occur. In the normal course of work, truckers would place some vehicles on top and some on the bottom. You have the option to request top load preference, but since in most cases, the trucker will need to rearrange the whole trailer to accommodate that, there’s a $75 fee (on average) for this service. If for safety or legal reasons truckers cannot accommodate such request, the fee will be waived or refunded. Please note that a trailer with a single deck is still considered top load as it ensures that there will be no vehicle above yours.

Open transport is the most common car shipping method. A car on this is exposed to outside elements such as rain, sun, dust, etc. It is a safe and secure way of transporting your vehicle. New cars are delivered to dealers by open trailer. With open car shipping you have the option to request top load for extra protection. Enclosed transport is often desired for owners of collector cars and used for classic, luxury, vintage, custom and sports cars. The vehicle is not exposed to weather elements and flying objects and prevents possible rock chips.
A carrier operates trucks and often times is an owner-operator who only schedules shipments through a broker and serves only a few routes. A broker has a huge network of car carriers serving the whole country. In most cases, a broker can give you a lower rate since they have multiple carriers competing to transport your vehicle. Brokers also verify the USDOT authority, federal licenses and cargo insurance of the carrier company transporting your vehicle. A broker is an expert in the industry and will guarantee that your car is shipped by a legitimate carrier. It can be difficult to verify these things on your own. If someone were to ship a vehicle they don’t own as a means of stealing it they would be committing a crime and the police would likely make short work of the case. We’ve shipped over 100,000 vehicles and never had an issue with someone using auto transport as a means of stealing a vehicle.

The Bill of Lading is an important document used in the auto transport industry as well as other forms of cargo shipping. The bill of lading is a legal document which will specify exactly what vehicle is to be transported from location A to location B and by whom. It will document the condition of the vehicle before it is turned over to the trucker at pickup and then document the condition again before it is turned over to the owner at delivery. The bill of lading serves as the contract between the trucker and the vehicle owner and includes the terms of that agreement. The final function of the Bill of Lading is as a receipt for the transaction. While the customer booking the transaction or the owner of the vehicle does not need to be at pickup nor delivery to sign the Bill of Lading personally, it is highly recommended that a representative who is at least 18 years of age is there to sign it because it is an important legal document for the transaction.
No. It is recommended but not required. Your vehicle will be insured by the Truckers cargo and liability policies as well as Montway’s “Contingent Cargo Insurance” which protects you for up to $250,000 should the truckers policy fail to fully cover a valid claim.
Yes, as specified by Federal Law, a trucker must be paid in full for services rendered. It is also in your best interest to pay the trucker in full. If you withhold the trucker’s payment partially or in full, he/she can legally hold the vehicle, until all applicable fees are paid. But not to worry, we are here to help! Terminal-to-Terminal means the customer is responsible for dropping off a vehicle at a terminal closest to the pickup location and then also responsible for picking it up at a terminal closet to the delivery location. Terminal-to-terminal shipping typically takes at least twice as long as Door-to-Door shipping because a vehicle must wait at one or more terminal locations until there are enough vehicles to fill out a truck. A vehicle is also more likely to be moved on and off trucks which is where damage most frequently occurs (loading and unloading). With door-to-door transport the same truck and driver will pickup and delivery your vehicle as close as legally and safely possible to your pickup and delivery address. Montway only offers Door-to-Door service. If you have a rural pickup or delivery location you can meet a trucker near an interstate or larger city to save considerable cost over what would normally be a higher rate for a rural pickup or delivery.
Truckers prefer cash and are willing to do the job for less if they are guaranteed to get payment at the time of completion without having to wait to be paid afterwards. Cash can be in the form of a Cashier’s Check or Money Order, any form of certified funds. It cannot be a credit card or personal check. If you choose to pay with a Cashier’s Check or Money Order, we’ll tell you whom it should be made out to.
How do I pay for my car transport?

Truckers are more willing to haul your vehicle at a discounted rate when you pay in cash. With this option, a partial payment is due at booking. You pay the remaining balance directly to the trucker at time of delivery or pickup in either cash, cashier’s check or money order.

Some popular vehicles like a Ford Mustang or Chevy Corvette have been around for several decades and we will ship both old and new versions of these cars. Older cars typically weigh considerably more than their newer counterparts and weight is a big component of the cost of shipping. Similarly, we also DO NOT look at the relative wealth of the zip codes of the route to charge more for higher income pickup or delivery areas.

For a vehicle to be considered operable it must be able to drive in forward and reverse under its own power and steer. If any of these conditions are not met it is considered inoperable. Basically, if a car can be driven on and off a transport truck with no additional work on the part of the trucker then it’s an operable vehicle. If the trucker must push or winch the vehicle onto the truck it’s inoperable and a trucker will want to be paid more to perform these additional services. Not all transport trucks can accommodate inoperable vehicles so pickup may take longer for an inoperable vehicle.
We will start with the vehicle details from your quote. If you call to place an order we may be able to lookup a quote you got online. We’ll need to know the year of the vehicle and the full pickup and delivery addresses. We’ll need your phone number in case we need to get in touch with you. We’ll also need the name and at least one phone number for the pickup and delivery contact if it will be someone other than you. Finally we need a credit card to put on file. We authorize the card at the time you give it to us to make sure it was entered correctly but there is no charge and no hold until we schedule a trucker for pickup and provide you with his name and number. If you’re booking in advance this won’t happen until a few days before your first available date at the absolute earliest. If you are placing an order that is available to be picked up immediately, it can take up to five days until your card will be charged. If you chose to pay with PayPal instead, either the partial payment or the pay-in-full option will need to be paid at the time of booking.

Depending on the total height of the vehicle with the roof rack the cost may be higher because it will mean that the car will end up taking more space on the transport truck where any additional space is at a premium.

Each auction will have different requirements to release a vehicle and we’ll get all the necessary details from you at the time of booking. Please make sure the vehicle is fully paid and ready for release from the auction. Also be aware that if a vehicle is booked as operable but it turns out the vehicle is inoperable there will be additional cost and the original trucker may not be able to accommodate an inoperable vehicle.
Yes. Please make sure your bill with the storage facility is settled prior to pickup as this is the biggest problem we have with storage facilities. Be aware that if the vehicle turns out not to run and it was booked as an operable vehicle the cost to complete the transport will be higher and the original truck may not be able to accomodate the shipment.
